About Us

Brisbane Freestyle Longboarding (BFL) was born out of the stoke that two mates shared for their most loved past time, Longboarding. In January 2011, it had been five months since Isaac and Josh had made the transition from their shortboards to their beloved longboards. At this stage, the BFL page on Facebook had been up for a few weeks, in an effort to find other skaters who were keen to hang. This was when they met some local groms who offered to help with holding an event. One grom in particular, Jared Atwood, was super psyched to help out. Ideas were thrown around for a couple of weeks, until disaster struck.

Brisbane was under siege as the city's iconic river wreaked havoc; thousands of homes were being destroyed by monstrous flood waters, the worst seen since 1974. After the waters had subsided and the crew had done what they could to assist with the clean up, the answer was clear, BFL would hold a fundraiser.

Longboarding For Flood Relief. With 110 people in attendance, numerous sponsors, government support and the presence of some local longboarding icons, the event was more than BFL could have ever wished for. With over $1150 raised for the Flood Appeal, the day was a huge success. Not only were the BFL crew stoked with their achievement, they had met a bunch of people just as passionate about longboarding as themselves.

With new found friends, BFL has continued to contribute to the community and has cemented its place within the longboarding family. Today, with the exposure that social media has offered, BFL sets out to offer something different and to keep the longboarding community spirit thriving.

Many tireless months of hard work have gone into creating this website, aiming to make the sport even more accessible to newcomers, provide a grom friendly atmosphere and to continue spreading the stoke. Josh and Isaac treat the BFL movement as a lifestyle and thoroughly enjoy sharing their love for for their favourite sport with the community, and perhaps one day, the world. The BFL website has been designed with the future in mind and will continue to evolve. Regular updates will ensure that visitors are kept in the know, able to interact, and most importantly, entertained.
