Omen Longboards started with the Carbon Matrix, which was the collaboration between a bunch of local Seattle skaters including Nate Blackburn and Trevor Preston. Omen didn’t have a physical location at the time, so the Matrix was outsourced to a local company. Due to the relatively low price tag (compared to other carbon boards) Omen gained some notoriety pretty quickly. After a little under a year, Omen procured space in a north Seattle garage and started producing the first Pike prototypes.

International Association of Skateboard Companies: Update

I’ve been on the job at the International Association of Skateboard Companies (IASC) for a little more than two years now. The question I get over and over again after telling people that I’m the executive director of the nonprofit trade association for the skateboard industry is, “Oh, so what do you guys do?” IASC exists to promote skateboarding, increase participation, educate and save our members money. We’ve got some great programs and initiatives in place to accomplish our goals. We’ve even managed to break them down into hashtags so we can communicate our message more clearly.

om Sims has been skateboarding for over fifty years. He has accomplished many remarkable things and has been at the forefront of four major board sports: skateboarding, longboarding, snowboarding and wakeboarding. He is truly the godfather of action sports. Is he worth multi-millions? Hardly. But this has not dampened his stoke. Sims is a visionary who has never lost the love for riding. He’s not just lived life, he has embraced it. Tom Sims is not just the godfather of board sports. He is the embodiment of pure stoke. His passion has enabled hundreds of millions of others to enjoy the ride, too.

Skate and Snowboard pioneer Tom Sims Dies

Tom Sims, pioneering skateboarder and snowboarder, died from cardiac arrest Wednesday night at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, near his home in California, according to a statement released by Sims Snowboards on Thursday.

In mid-April, the Concrete Wave staff decided to go on a little road trip to both Southern and Northern California. We had an opportunity to visit many of the places and people that make up this great world of longboarding.

Wee Willy Winkle was now working hard on the snow board craze (never catch on…what was I thinking) Willy had partnered with Tom Sims to make some Skateboards and now was making these wooden Snowboards the one problem was they had no edges and these guys were in the wood business.
