Omen Longboards started with the Carbon Matrix, which was the collaboration between a bunch of local Seattle skaters including Nate Blackburn and Trevor Preston. Omen didn’t have a physical location at the time, so the Matrix was outsourced to a local company. Due to the relatively low price tag (compared to other carbon boards) Omen gained some notoriety pretty quickly. After a little under a year, Omen procured space in a north Seattle garage and started producing the first Pike prototypes.

“Skateboarding with Saddam” is a powerful new independent film in the works produced by the legendary Doug Claybourne who produced or executive produced such films as “The Fast and Furious”, “War of the Roses”, “Rumblefish” and “Mask of Zorro.” The filmmakers seek to not only tell a touching coming of age love story but also to make a film authentic to skateboarding culture and the golden skate era of 1990-91. Skate legend and artist Brian Lotti is acting as the skateboard consultant and Santa Cruz pros, Emmanuel Guzman and Justin Strubing are being featured in the new exciting teaser.

Designer Accused of Plagerizing Work of Santa Cruz Artist Jim and Jimbo Phillips

If some in Santa Cruz have their way, the Screaming Hand will soon haunt the dreams of Jeremy Scott. Scott is a famous fashion designer who is the object of a growing flame war on the Internet. He is being accused by legions of Santa Cruzans, as well as skateboarders from just about everywhere, of stealing the designs of iconic Santa Cruz graphic artists Jim and Jimbo Phillips. Scott’s Feb. 13 fashion show in New York, debuting his fall 2013 line, likely would have escaped the notice of most Santa Cruzans if not for several outfits that bore a strong resemblance to the work of the father and son duo who, between them, are responsible for many of the most famous looks in skateboard design, including the famous “red dot” logo for Santa Cruz Skateboards and the blue “Screaming Hand” logo.
