Omen Longboards started with the Carbon Matrix, which was the collaboration between a bunch of local Seattle skaters including Nate Blackburn and Trevor Preston. Omen didn’t have a physical location at the time, so the Matrix was outsourced to a local company. Due to the relatively low price tag (compared to other carbon boards) Omen gained some notoriety pretty quickly. After a little under a year, Omen procured space in a north Seattle garage and started producing the first Pike prototypes.

Longboarder Labs was created by Rick Tetz. Who is Rick Tetz? What is your background? When skateboarding hit in the mid-seventies, I really got into it. I was a sponsored skater back in the 70′s. I rode for Santa Cruz, Hobie, Sims, Vision, Rector, Vans, Wings Wheels, and Gullwing to mention a few. started putting ACS trucks together in the 70′s working for Northwest Skateboard Distributors at 18. Mission Impossible?: The $50 Marketing Budget

Consultants and retail experts offer all kinds of advice when it comes to running your shop: “Make it an experience! Engage the customer! Offer something truly special.” We couldn’t agree more. But how do you best go about doing this? You can put tens of thousands of dollars into store displays. You can fill your shop with incredible amounts of product and spend a huge amount on consultants. You can create incredible signage. But what if right now you don’t have tens of thousands of dollars lying around? What if all you have for a marketing budget is $50.00? We went out to our local dollar store with the intent of finding 10 items that would help increase traffic at your shop and provide customers with a unique shopping experience. The goal is to increase sales and build positive word of mouth.

I talk to people about Longboarding a lot. It’s hard not to. Everyone in our industry is intimately aware of how popular it’s become. Most people have at least tried doing it, whether “it” be Downhill, Sliding, Dancing, Freeriding, or just pushing around campus. And people that are heavily involved in longboarding are crazy passionate about it. During many of these conversations I’ve had with people about longboarding, the name of Patrick Switzer is almost always inevitably brought up.
