Omen Longboards started with the Carbon Matrix, which was the collaboration between a bunch of local Seattle skaters including Nate Blackburn and Trevor Preston. Omen didn’t have a physical location at the time, so the Matrix was outsourced to a local company. Due to the relatively low price tag (compared to other carbon boards) Omen gained some notoriety pretty quickly. After a little under a year, Omen procured space in a north Seattle garage and started producing the first Pike prototypes.

This will now be an annual event on June 20th in different areas of Tijuana. We hope it inspires the younger generation. There were five categories: Downhill, Freeride, Hippie Jump, Slalom, and the fifth category went to the Worst Fall. It was a day full of talent with lots of participants!

I met up with PD of Skull Skates, aka Peter Ducommun, when I started the research for The Concrete Wave book. In May 1999, PD was gracious enough to hold a book launch in his shop in Kitsilano, BC. PD has had a tremendous impact on skateboarding, and he’s never wavered from his vision. He’s also had a huge influence on Troy Derrick — but you’ll learn more about that in a few pages.
