FlowJoe Longboards is the brainchild of 13-year-old entrepreneur Ryan Nickell. By working with a manufacturer in California, Nickell sells his 100 percent Canadian maple longboards for just $75, much less than the typical $120 to $300.
LONGBOARDERS rolled into the District of North Vancouver municipal hall Monday night to weigh in on proposed changes to the municipality’s boarding bylaws. Most were not thrilled about proposed changes to the existing bylaw that include increasing fines from $35 to $100 for reckless riders and giving police the authority to impound a longboard for 24 hours.
The festival will be getting bigger with a second event at the Whistler Sliding Centre that’s geared to recreational and beginner racers, as well as the main downhill race – a 1.6 km course with a 325 metres drop and 13 corners, seven of them 180 degree hairpin turns.

Stacy Peralta has been busy this week at the Sundance Film Festival with the world premiere of his “Bones Brigade” documentary on Saturday and Sunday’s premiere of “No Room for Rockstars,” a documentary that follows the Vans Warped Tour for two years. Forever Came Calling and Against Me! performed at Sunday’s premiere of “No Room for Rockstars” in Park City.
Patrick Switzer was second with a time of 1:29.650. Switzer, the winner of the last three IGSA World Cup races, was looking strong and gunning for his fourth World Cup victory in a row.
