The AXS Gear/Concrete Wave Readers’ Choice survey yielded a tremendous amount of information. Almost 4,000 people took the time to fill out the survey, with an average time of 14-plus minutes to complete! That represents almost 40 days’ worth of time! We produced a fully comprehensive listing of all companies in the Concrete Wave Buyer’s Guide. But here, for the purpose of space, we will address some of the key findings from the survey. We instituted two distinct changes this year. First, we changed the actual questions to reflect what brands are actually owned by readers. Rather than focusing on the word favorite,” we wanted to know what people actually had in their quiver.

San Diego Skaters Challenged to New Type of Competition—The Marathon

An unlikely skateboard competition is coming to San Diego this weekend. The Adrenalina Skateboard Marathon will be taking place in Mission Bay on Saturday, Oct. 20 at 6 a.m. This skateboard competition is a 26.2-mile multi-lap longboard race that will test skaters’ fitness and endurance. The race, put on by La Jolla-based Adrenalina, originated in Hallandale Beach, Fla. in 2010 by creator Ilia Lekech. “He had this vision of just a greener method of transportation basically, also just to get all the kids off the couch and to be active and enjoy a healthy lifestyle,” said his son Zalman Lekech.

Since then, skaters from New York, Florida, Texas and Puerto Rico have competed in the marathon as it traveled to their cities. This year skaters from San Diego will have their chance to compete in the marathon and to win a part of the $5,000 prize purse.

An unlikely skateboard competition is coming to San Diego this weekend. The Adrenalina Skateboard Marathon will be taking place in Mission Bay on Saturday, Oct. 20 at 6 a.m.“The longboard skate industry was actually born here in San Diego so we wanted to bring it back and pay it back to the community,” said Lekech.

Lekech says they are expecting more than 100 racers to compete. About a year ago Adrenalina opened a store on La Jolla Boulevard and they are looking to make the San Diego race an annual event for their new hometown. The marathon will consist of a six-lap race around Fiesta Island in Mission Bay. Young kids and beginners will have the option of participating in a two-mile race challenge. The marathon will end with product giveaways, entertainment, award presentations and a sponsor expo.

All racers must come to the La Jolla shop (at 5726 La Jolla Blvd., La Jolla, CA 92037) to check in for the race between by 7 p.m., Friday. Registratoin is $30, or $10 for kids 12 years old and younger. A portion of each registration fee will be donated to the Champion Sports Academy (CSA), a youth educational sports training program that was developed by the San Diego Hall of Champions. The top five placing men will win between $1,500 for first and $100 for fifth. The top three women finishers will win $1,000, $500 and $200.
