Reader’s Choice: Analysis, Rants and Raves
April 30, 2013 – 2:48 PM | No Comment

The AXS Gear/Concrete Wave Readers’ Choice survey yielded a tremendous amount of information. Almost 4,000 people took the time to fill out the survey, with an average time of 14-plus minutes to complete! That represents almost 40 days’ worth of time! We produced a fully comprehensive listing of all companies in the Concrete Wave Buyer’s Guide. But here, for the purpose of space, we will address some of the key findings from the survey. We instituted two distinct changes this year. First, we changed the actual questions to reflect what brands are actually owned by readers. Rather than focusing on the word favorite,” we wanted to know what people actually had in their quiver.

Loaded Freeride Gloves V.6 Reviewed

These gloves rule! I’ve been using makeshift slide gloves for as long as I can remember and have never felt the need to buy pre-made slide gloves… until now. For our first glove review we tested Loaded‘s new Freeride Glove v.6. As I said, I have never felt the need to buy my sliders. I usually make them out of old work gloves I get dirt cheep at Wal-Mart, but you totally get what you pay for. I never noticed how much effort I put into keeping my crappy sliders on my hands, as well I never realized how much shock was being transferred directly from the ground to my hands. With the Loaded Gloves once they’re on, they’re on. The wrist strap on these gloves is awesome, it really helps keep the gloves in place to give that extra bit of confidence you need to push yourself. Another sweet feature of these gloves is the removable EVA foam wrist cushion. This feature really helps keep hand fatigue in it’s place…in your memories.

These gloves are made with a material called COOLEVER, it’s a material that is designed to quickly absorb moisture and to regulate temperature, combined with a very breathable mesh over the knuckles and back of the hand these gloves keep their cool even when you can’t. The palm of these gloves is made with a very durable synthetic suede
and double stitched velcro.

I found the slide pucks on these gloves amazing! I’m used to using IKEA cutting boards for sliders, which do their job, but are total crap compared to the plastics used by Loaded. The High Molecular Weight of the palm and thumb pucks make for super smooth slippery slides. I really found a huge difference between my cutting boards and the Loaded pucks, slides on my other gloves seem really sluggish and choppy compared to the super smooth fast slides I was getting out of the Loaded gloves. The plastics they use are definitely far superior to any cutting board you’ll find. Loaded also put a ton of velcro of these gloves so customizing you puck placement is super easy.

Heres a list of features of these gloves straight from Loaded

- Removable EVA foam wrist cushion Loaded Gloves Post Skate
- Kick ass wrist strap
- Reflective lining
- Breathable mesh top
- Durable synthetic suede palms
- Ergonomic finger shapes for improved fit
- Non-articulated thumbs for less chance of drag
- Velcro palm, thumb and fingers for optimized puck placement
- Double-stitched velcro on palms
- Ultra high molecular weight circular palm and thumb pucks
- High density finger pucks
- No PVCs.
- 100% vegan. Loaded tests their products on humans
- Made with COOLEVER (Optimizes wearer comfort by offering superior moisture and temperature management)

All in all these gloves have made me change my mind about what I will put on my hands when I skate. If you want cheap crap go to Wal-mart and buy some cheap gloves velcro and cutting boards, but if you want to step up your game go check out some Loaded Gloves… you will be glad you did. Oh yea…. Wear your helmet!
