Omen Longboards started with the Carbon Matrix, which was the collaboration between a bunch of local Seattle skaters including Nate Blackburn and Trevor Preston. Omen didn’t have a physical location at the time, so the Matrix was outsourced to a local company. Due to the relatively low price tag (compared to other carbon boards) Omen gained some notoriety pretty quickly. After a little under a year, Omen procured space in a north Seattle garage and started producing the first Pike prototypes.

LONGBOARDING INVADES NEW YORK CITY

NYC Longboard Trade Show 2011NYC to host first ever Longboard tradeshow! The world’s first longboard tradeshow will take place on March 11th at the new location of Longboard Loft NYC, 132 Allen Street in, New York’s Lower East Side. Thirty-two national and international companies will showcase their products as part of this one-day only multimedia event.

This exposition is designed to give longboard dealers and riders a chance to see what’s new in the industry, as well as an opportunity to connect with consumers in the exploding east coast market. “The longboard market is growing rapidly and this expo is long overdue”, says Brian Davenport, founder of Pushculture.com, a revered longboarding website.

Over the past decade, Longboarding has slowly gained an enormous following through the use of social networking and media sites. Longboard companies like Original have tens of millions of viewers on YouTube alone. According to ActionWatch, a survey of surf and skate shops across the United States, skateboard sales dropped 2 percent in the first quarter of 2010, while sales of longboards rose an astounding 43 percent compared to the year before.

The free event begins at 12pm and runs until 8pm. For those around the world who would like to participate, but are unable to make it to NYC, the event will be streamed live over the web at pushculture.com, starting at 7pm and leading up to the presentation of the Second Annual Concrete Wave/AXS Gear Reader’s Choice Awards.

The event is co-sponsored by an all New York based team consisting of Bustin Boards longboards, Rat Rod Studios, Pushculture.com, AXSGear, Butternuts Beer and Fresh Paved magazine.
