Reader’s Choice: Analysis, Rants and Raves
April 30, 2013 – 2:48 PM | No Comment

The AXS Gear/Concrete Wave Readers’ Choice survey yielded a tremendous amount of information. Almost 4,000 people took the time to fill out the survey, with an average time of 14-plus minutes to complete! That represents almost 40 days’ worth of time! We produced a fully comprehensive listing of all companies in the Concrete Wave Buyer’s Guide. But here, for the purpose of space, we will address some of the key findings from the survey. We instituted two distinct changes this year. First, we changed the actual questions to reflect what brands are actually owned by readers. Rather than focusing on the word favorite,” we wanted to know what people actually had in their quiver.

Starving Artist Guide – How to Woo a Skater Girl – By Rodgon

I have Searched far and  wide in hopes of finding six amazing ladies of skate in order to see how these females can be wooed by the average skater. Is it skills that lure these beauties? Money? Power? Tattoos? Or just being nice? Take a look into what these ladies have to say and take notes. Let’s begin!

Rodgon: Hello, ladies. Seeing as you are all rare beauties in the skate world and I know you have guys hitting on you left and right, I want to ask you all a few questions that will hopefully improve our fellow skaters’ chances for romance.

I have Searched far and wide in hopes of finding six amazing ladies of skate in order to see how these females can be wooed by the average skater. Is it skills that lure these beauties? Money? Power? Tattoos? Or just being nice? Take a look into what these ladies have to say and take notes. Let's begin!

QUESTION 1: When one of the many skater boys comes up to you to hit on you, how can he get your attention?

Alli: Looks, I’m not gonna go into detail, but let’s be serious; attraction is a physical thing. It also helps if he can skate. Good skater boys = hot.

Alicia: Ideally, he should approach with a switch backside check with length at least into the double digits, with clean form and good style, His chiseled abs should be naturally tanned and smoothly waxed. On a nice day with comfortable temperatures, this sort of approach will land him a 95% chance of a second glance.

Katie: Show off to me or learn what I’m interested in. I want to be a doctor when I’m older and I’m very into health and the body; talk to me about that and I’ll love you forever. Or try to show off on your board without falling.

Xan: “Hey, you’re Xan, right? It’s so great to meet you! I’m (insert name here)! How’s your day going?” (*Flash a brilliant smile here*)

Katherine: Well, they gotta have that swagg. Like work dat hat! [laughs] You know. “dome for hat” [laughs]. But if they have confidence people can tell, too; that’s always a plus, and biddies like that.

(Translation)
Basically, if you have swag I will notice. If you are confident, I like that too. And it never hurts to be a thug and shred hard when you skate.

Carmen: When a skater walks up  to me, the easiest way she could get my attention is by eye contact first. I can be pretty awkward at times when I have to introduce myself first. But if she wants to make the first move, all she’s gotta say is hi. BUT! If it’s an individual I may not be attracted to at first… she better be a really good talker! Ha ha.

QUESTION 2: Any way, shape or form a skater can make you drool over him/her?

Alli: You want me to drool? Then…  teach me new things or let me borrow your skate gear if I need it (i.e. leathers/pucks/gloves). Only sweethearts would risk road rash for a girl.

Alicia: Yes. Purchasing for me some dank food is his best bet. I’m fond of quality burritos, gyros, and cold cereal. I’d recommend obtaining one of these items after a long day of skating and no eating; then setting it in front of me and sitting beneath me. I’ll drool all gross-like over him for sure. Mmmm gyros…

Katie Have a dog and amazing eyes. I’m obsessed with dogs.

Xan: Break out the Sour Patch Kids.

Katherine: I really like it when guys can pull off hats, like mucho a lot. And when they can do really rad stuff going down the hill, that also draws attention because I lurk and watch people go down [laughs]. But hats are a plus.

Carmen: Oh yeah, there is! The girl must bust out some long-ass backside checks, in a bikini, then throwing it into a big spin backflip, all while smoking a Camel menthol! The drool will be all the way down into my socks!

QUESTION 3: OK, be honest. How much does skill play into how hot the skater is?

Alli: Like I said, guys that have great skill and talent [and] love what they are doing is a HUGE turn-on.

Katie: It’s hard not to be attracted to those who are the best and always make podium – gives them a little extra swag. but it comes down to personality with me. I don’t talk to someone who’s boring off of their board.

Xan: Higher skill level is definitely  an attractive feature on a man, but it’s more about how they view themselves and their skill level. If they think that they know everything and are just the shiz (even if it’s true), then I don’t care how good they are. Cockiness is my number one turn-off.

Katherine: Uhmmm, for me it’s pretty decently sized factor into attractiveness. I like it when boys  are athletic and good at what they do; puts them on another level of attractiveness.

Carmen: Skill level has a huge part of my attraction toward any girl. I get bored easily, so if she can give me a run for my money, then I’m all ears, baby! I’m  naturally competitive and I need a girl who can keep up.

QUESTION 4: Lets face it , skaters skate a lot, and don’t always have time to shower before hitting on you. What is your view on hygiene?

Alli: If you haven’t Showered in the past two days, game over.

Katie: A ton! After a long day of skating it’s fine if you’re all disgusting, but generally I don’t want to talk to someone who looks like they live in a box.

Xan: Hygiene is a MUST. Clean Shaven, clean clothes, clean language, clean mind. If you can’t respect yourself and your body, why would I think you can respect me?

Katherine: I def think a boy should have good hygiene! Ha ha. Being musty I can live with – I mean, that’s all of team Ali! [Laughs] But brushing teeth and showering I think should be an achievable goal in life.

Carmen: It is of course important to m. But hey, sometimes you’ll be on a week long skate trip and only one chance to shower… and sometimes one thing leads to another and it doesn’t matter because you both are on the same gnar level! But the ideal situation for anybody (hopefully) would be a shower daily.

QUESTION 5: OK, ladies: geeks or jocks?

Alli: I like nerds; they are the best in bed. Ha ha ha! Just kidding.

Katie: I’d go with mostly geek, ’cause it’s easier to make them into a jock than the other way around. I like geeky guys, but I lust for jocks.

Xan: They should be able to keep up with me playing Super Smash Bros Melee and playing Ultimate Frisbee.

Katherine: Jocks are generally good at sports and things of that nature, and I like boys who are active. Also, they are probably going to be fit, and who doesn’t like that!

QUESTION 6: Moolah, skrilla, bling bling: How much does the almighty dollar play into the equation?

Alli: Money doesn’t matter, the type of car they drive doesn’t matter. As long as they can take me out on a date to Taco Bell to pay for me, then I’m a happy camper.

Katie: Money doesn’t matter with me; some is better than none, but I work hard to keep myself funded. I would be more attracted to someone who was independent and was a hard worker. Money always just causes problems with things so I try to keep it out of the way.

Xan: Ha! I don’t think I care about that. I guess it depends on how they spend their money. A good rule of thumb: ALL girls love some bling – whether it’s precision trucks or jewelry. We all got something!

Katherine: Hmmm… Well, it’s always nice to have a guy who can take you out and buy you random things like necklaces and stuff. But I mean, if you don’t have the cash I don’t really mind that much – if you’re a nice person and fun to talk to, then that won’t change my mind on that person.

There you have it, fellas (and gals). Take notes and keep what you just read in mind when you encounter one of these rare and magnificent ladies. Perhaps you’ll have a good chance to land one of them if you do things right. Good luck – you’ll need it! And until next time! -Rodgon-
