Reader’s Choice: Analysis, Rants and Raves
April 30, 2013 – 2:48 PM | No Comment

The AXS Gear/Concrete Wave Readers’ Choice survey yielded a tremendous amount of information. Almost 4,000 people took the time to fill out the survey, with an average time of 14-plus minutes to complete! That represents almost 40 days’ worth of time! We produced a fully comprehensive listing of all companies in the Concrete Wave Buyer’s Guide. But here, for the purpose of space, we will address some of the key findings from the survey. We instituted two distinct changes this year. First, we changed the actual questions to reflect what brands are actually owned by readers. Rather than focusing on the word favorite,” we wanted to know what people actually had in their quiver.

I worked the Surf and Skate Show at the Del Mar Fairgrounds in San Diego County, I was there to spread the stoke for Longboarding for Peace. I set the Concrete Wave tent up right in front of the skate lot, I got there early on Friday, as I rolled in to the event you could see skateboarders, longboards, and surfs with the sound of reggae music  jamming in the back ground out of some hippies Kia Soul, oh wait that was me. Hahahahah. We pulled in and right away I felt like I was home, the people who create this life, live and breathe it, it is not just something they do, it is what they live. I met hundreds of people, some famous some not; to me they were all amazing. I helped some dudes get the skate ramps off of their trailer and set up some of the skate demo. I worked next to these guys for a couple of days, never knowing who they are. It turns out one of the coolest people I met at the show was, Jeff King from the Fuel T.V show Built To Shred. He was so chill and so helpful. I talked to him about his love for skating, he has set up over 300 Fridays for free just to give skaters somewhere to skate that was safe for them and others. He truly is a godfather of the sport, anyone who would give up so much of their own time so they could bring joy to others is OK in my book, great job Jeff, you are an inspiration to the new and the old lovers of skateboarding everywhere, thanks bro.

Some important people who all felt they wanted to contribute to Longboarding For Peace range from Marines to peace loving hippies, the thing they all had in common was they all love to longboard. Miki Harris, Noah McCammon and your friend who must be in black ops or some undercover work and did not want his name listed. You guys represent so much of the new face of skateboarding. You guys brought your kids to the event to be part of the scene. Thanks for hanging with me and drinking $9 beers, you guys rock, oh yeah your buddy in the Navy here is a shout out to your two beautiful children, Kai and Nalu Raney, they are cute, future longboarders in the making.

I met a couple of companies and some amazing artist who I felt represented ConcreteWave and our movement through Longboarding For Peace. They felt like we represented them to and gracefully made donations for the cause. Gary Young is one of the old dogs who is keeping his love for longboarding, surfing, and ukuleles alive and strong. Gary represents the whole life style, he lives it, he believes it, he is spreading his stoke and helping others find their way, check his companies out at www.TheSurfersChoice.com and www.IslandUkuleses.com this guy has a good vibe, no B.S just Surf and Skate. Thank you Gary for all your support.

Ok for real this next company is totally rad, Scavenger, these two brothers from other mothers have the biggest skateboard collection I have ever seen or heard of. They put out the coolest coffee table book ever, Surf to Skate, every grown up skateboarder needs one of these just to represent, check it out at (scavengerbrand.com) thank you both for your support of Longboarding for Peace, I love what you guys are doing, you have an amazing collections thanks for showing it off.

One of the sickest artist who is putting his heart and soul out there for the rest of us to admire is Shawn Griggs, his stuff is totally tough, one of his pieces got my attention from across the room, his vibe is really great, I loved his art and so did everyone else at the event, take my advice and get your hands on one of this dudes paintings, he is going to be around this scene a while and he represents it well, we all need one of his pieces in our man cave, check his art out at REDEYELABORATORIES.COM

Ok no event is complete with out some killer jams and these dudes brought the correct vibe for the party, liwefi, check out their music at likwefi@gmail.com. Everyone from old to young was digging their vibe, it is such a perfect mix of sound, I could not have hand picked a better band to represent the soundtrack to the Surf and Skate event, thank you all so much for entertaining all of us, you guys really are a class act. Keep on rocking and thanks for supporting Longboarding ForPeace.

The last group of artist who donated to Longboarding For Peace was a cool co-op of artists who work under the name Foreverstoked.com they are pouring out tons of cool art pieces and they all get the point across. These guys and their artshow they live it, they love it and they really are stoked, the thing I found cool about Forever Stoked was how affordable I could get my hands on some badass art, thanks for spreading the stoke guys and thanks for supporting Longboarding For Peace, one for all, all for one. Thanks to Peter Pierce for all that you are doing to better the skate scene for pros and future pros I dig what your doing bro.

Now that you have read this article I want to invite you to be a piece for peace, shoot me an email Dusty@thehumblehippie.com and become a piece of our puzzle, we here at Concrete Wave believe we can save the world with a little help from our friends and family in the Longboarding communities around the world. Remember, you will never be bored for long aslong as you longboard. Until next time, I am Dusty Ray AKA The Humble Hippie, Longboarding For Peace.
