Omen Longboards started with the Carbon Matrix, which was the collaboration between a bunch of local Seattle skaters including Nate Blackburn and Trevor Preston. Omen didn’t have a physical location at the time, so the Matrix was outsourced to a local company. Due to the relatively low price tag (compared to other carbon boards) Omen gained some notoriety pretty quickly. After a little under a year, Omen procured space in a north Seattle garage and started producing the first Pike prototypes.

The Next Wave: Francesca Rosario
November 27, 2014 – 2:44 PM | No Comment

Francesca is the ideal example of how quickly a rider can progress. Every time wheels hit the pavement there is a clear sense of determination and confidence that has led Francesca to being one of the fastest learners I have seen. It seems every time I skate with her, she continues to impress, in a matter of sessions. She is one of the safest, dialed riders around with a perfect balance of pushing her limits.

Why is Signal Hill important in the history of skateboarding? Signal Hill was the first downhill skateboard race, and pretty much every aspect of current downhill skateboarding started at that race. A short list of innovations from Signal Hill would include air braking, the Hut Tuck (developed by John Hutson and Michael Goldman,) the first women’s downhill skateboard race, the first street luge in a race, the first skatecar, the first sliding gloves, and many more.

If you’ve been paying attention for a few years, I’m sure you’ve noticed the evolution that women in this sport have been going through. It’s not simply the number of women involved, but also the level of the riding. This high level of performance is setting the bar for the new generation of women, and they are rising up to meet it. Kim Woozy is the founder of Mahfia, which is a network of female pro athletes, artists and in action sports culture.

Amanda Powell: Balance of Power
November 7, 2014 – 3:12 PM | No Comment

Amanda is a good friend of mine, as well as my teammate. Amanda is always a happy and positive person to be around. She’s a beautiful girl, but knows how to kick it with the guys! She is truly multi-talented, whether it’s skateboarding, surfing, or snowboarding; Amanda is passionate about what she does and an all around rad person to be around. I’m stoked to have her as a friend and teammate. – Kody Noble
