I’ll give you 3 guesses
No, Eastern Skateboard Distribution doesn’t count.
No, those two ads from importers/3rd party manufactures, don’t count either.
The Arbor ad is for clothing…so that doesn’t count.
Nope, the ONLY hard goods skate company in the August issue is… SECTOR 9.
This is an amazing thing for me.
Think about it for a moment…the ONLY skateboard advertiser is one who does not make traditional street decks…or wheels…or trucks (actually, you can buy Sector 9 street product, but that’s not what they are known for).
The actual ad contains a giant pic of the Off the Wall 2 (sidewinder series). Yep, that’s that DOUBLE truck. It’s going to SHOCK a few readers…for sure!
In fact, Sector 9 is all over this issue. The front cover has a small photo of EG (marketing guy @ Sector) and the lead story is the Billabong/Sector 9 acquisition. The ad appears on page 3 – that’s significant. And what’s this on page 16 – an editor’s choice column in which reviewer Mike Lewis raves about his, you guessed it, “Evening Session” Sector 9 (complete with Gullwing Sidewinder trucks!)
So, it would appear that things are beginning to change…at least in the trade side of the media.
Now, let’s see what the folks at Transworld Skateboarding Magazine do….
